Abstraction Fabrication

Incorporating the technologies of digital fabrication to explore the deeper complexities of design, making, assembly and material formulation. The aim is to develop an understanding of digital design and fabrication technologies as tools for managing a complex negotiation of material, geometric, manufacturing and assembly constraints and the resulting effects. The designs are to utilize the concept of mass customization to allow efficiency in its design and fabrication while allowing large-scale customized output with individualized solutions.

Parametric programming in Grasshopper + Rhino allows for live manipulation in the design of a pavilion. Utilizing the laser cutter, the timber scaled model of 1:50 is constructed entirely without any use of glue.
